Slava was the last spiritual son of a sick and somewhat out-of-favor Prokofiev. He helped him rewrite the Concerto op.58, which thus became the Symphonie concertante op.125 that he premiered, as well as the unfinished Concertino op.132. He waited two years to give the public premiere of the Sonata op.119 on March 1, 1950, with Richter, and performed it over a hundred times during his career, establishing it as the reference work for this ensemble, like a glorious suite to Beethoven's op.69.
