Audio cassettes. Do you remember them? Those things with the twin reels and the heaps of wide brown plastic recording tape that sometimes unraveled and hung out of the shell, requiring a pencil and a steady wrist to put them back in place? Well, once upon a time, old-school audio systems contained cassette decks for the express purpose of recording shows, and these “cassettes” were an integral part of every tour. Motorhead certainly was no exception, recording show after show. They contain gold, pure auditory gold, and had remained for many years hundreds of feet underground in a small cave belonging to Lemmy, guarded by little hairy centurions in Roman armor with tiny spears and bad attitudes. Only the magic password could free them, and fortunately, Lem had scribbled it down and left it for us in an old sketchbook (no, we won’t tell you the password, even though it contained the words “nie nie nie” in it). There were plenty of little dirty, dusty, greasy buggers gathered together, with places like Lyon, Liverpool, Hamburg and Chippenham (!!) scribbled in ballpoint pen on the little labels next to a date... and so we are delighted to announce that this unique collection of live gems will now be heard by the whole world, via carefully digitized transfers, in the series titled The Lost Tapes.
