Description

Without guitars and with a half-set of bass strings, Morphine managed to rock harder than most of their fretboard competitors while maintaining the smooth nocturnal flow that would become their signature sound. With former Treat Her Right guitarist/singer Mark Sandman, Morphine combined elements of blues and jazz with more traditional rock arrangements, giving the band an unusual sound. Mark Sandman sang distinctly in a "deep and laid-back" voice. Sandman may be gone, but this album keeps coming back, stronger and stronger! All the praise and success that Morphine garnered in the 1990s has its roots in this first independent album.
