Description

The Belarusian post-punk/synth pop band Molchat Doma is known for the aesthetic of brutalist architecture that adorns its album covers: cold, gray, imposing, industrial, and yet, there are human hearts beating within these foundations. In just a few years, the band has become an icon of the underground. First through the internet, then through social media, and now thanks to their concerts. The trio has gone through a succession of very extreme experiences, from a uprooted life and a forced move away from their hometown of Minsk to global success, becoming headliners at major festivals around the world. It is in this rather strange and unprecedented situation that the band settled in Los Angeles to finish writing their fourth album, Belaya Polosa, a testament to change in difficult times, a love letter to the digital pulse of the 90s, and a technicolor reinvention of the band's very dark dancefloor anthems. Belaya Polosa propels them in a new direction while maintaining the minimalist coldness for which they are known. The band retains the duality of being both cold and feverish in their interpretation while pushing their music into broader territories with an arsenal of new textures.
