A magnificent concert by Mohammad Rezâ Shadjariân, master of Persian classical singing, both composer and performer: inspired improvisation, poems chosen with taste and talent, subtle instrumental accompaniment. Traditional Iranian music is a message, a call emanating from the deep consciousness of the artist, linked to a history and culture that are thousands of years old. The interest that Iranians have in poetry (by Ferdowsi, Mowlavi, Saadi, Hâfez, Bâbâ Taher, Khayam, etc.) has resulted in music often being accompanied by sung poems. The technique of Persian singing is very complex and, while being very delicate, possesses remarkable strength and physical quality – the singer improvises ornaments and vocalizations in a form of singing that is free and without rhythm, whose beauty depends on their sensitivity, emotional states, enthusiasm, and depth of interpretation.
