Between 1988 and 2010, Steve Reich composed three string quartets - Different Trains, Triple Quartet and WTC 9/11. Today, Deutsche Grammophon presents this trilogy of works on one album for the first time, in new recordings by the Mivos Quartet.
The musicians of Mivos developed their interpretations of the three quartets – inspired by music of language, echoes of Bartók, and the events of a terror-filled day – in close collaboration with the composer Steve Reich. Reich himself supported the project from start to finish, answering the group's questions about musical nuances, offering advice on style, and praising the final album.
