Asado

Description

The encouraging expression of the title has traveled the world; it can also slip furtively into the language of the charismatic Argentine percussionist. «Vamos» is here Minino Garay’s invitation to the musicians, to accompany him in this new transcultural sonic adventure, but also to the audience, to follow him through the landscapes of various composers brought together. «Vamos» is, above all, an incantation, an expression of the will to surpass oneself, to go beyond one’s own recognized and celebrated abilities.
For the path of the percussionist who emigrated from Cordoba to Buenos Aires, then from that city of tango and rock to Paris, is an improbable journey, like the plot of an adventure film.
The most exuberant percussionist in Paris - according to the description of a renowned journalist - had come a long way since his Parisian beginnings with Tierra del Fuego. When the new diva of jazz, Dee Dee Bridgewater, invites him to join her group. Garay, even if he plays drums in other contexts, is not a “jazz” drummer. Nevertheless, like many percussionists who came to jazz from other musical cultures, he offers a chromatic palette and a decidedly personal style.
An energetic style that impressed André "Dedé" Ceccarelli, then companion in all of Dee Dee’s adventures. Ceccarelli becomes his musical godfather. «Vamos» is at the crossroads of all the paths explored by Garay. It is a concentration of experiences and an expressive kaleidoscope. It is Minino’s plural world and a feline and profound evocation of Buenos Aires; like the nocturnal run of a stray cat that sets the rhythm of the sleep of the living and the dance of the spirits of those who are no longer there.
Vamos» is therefore (also) a song of friendship. Minino plays there with his buddies: guitarist Manu Codja, pianists Malcolm Braff and Baptiste Trotignon, bassist Jérome Regard, flutist Magic Malik, composer Lalo Zaneli, arranger Guillermo Klein, engineer Philippe Teissier du Cros.
And everyone follows Garay! ¡Vamos!
