Miles In France 1963 & 1964 - Miles Davis Quintet: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 8
Description
The famous Miles Davis Bootleg Series has spanned several years from 1955 to 1985, but it has not yet covered the years 1963 and 1964 — a pivotal period in Miles' musical evolution and the promising beginnings of the Second Great Quintet — until now. Today, Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings announce the new Miles Bootleg Series box set: Miles in France - Miles Davis Quintet 1963/64 : The Bootleg Series, Vol. 8, which includes all the music recorded at the Festival Mondial du Jazz d'Antibes in 1963 (July 26-28) and the Festival de Jazz de Paris in 1964 (October 1). The 1963 recordings feature George Coleman, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams, while those from 1964 mark the arrival of Wayne Shorter on tenor saxophone as the final member of the Second Great Quintet. France was important to Miles, both professionally and personally, and quickly became his favorite territory. He played in France more often than in any other country outside the United States and recorded there frequently. His history in the country dates back to 1949 — when he performed at the Festival international de jazz at age 22 — and extends to July 1991, for a concert in Nice two months before his death. Miles In France will be released with over four hours of previously unreleased music and new liner notes by journalist Marcus J. Moore.
