Venerated by the artistic Paris elite, from the jazz cellars of Saint-Germain to the films of the Nouvelle Vague, Miles Davis, whose every visit to Paris is an event, is a true icon in France. A few months after the release of Kind of Blue, in March 1960, he began a European tour with Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, Jimmy Cobb and John Coltrane. Europeans then discovered for the first time the avant-garde saxophonist, a shooting star in jazz history, who would define an entire part of its modern framework. A recording that marks a pivotal era for jazz and in a way heralds the coming free revolution, but is also historic, because one can hear a divided audience, booing or cheering the musical explorations of the New York saxophonist. The second part of this box set, recorded the following winter and in which John Coltrane is replaced by Sonny Stitt, presents a liberated Miles Davis, at the height of his art.
