Big fun

Remastered sound, four unreleased tracks, liner notes signed by saxophonist Bennie Maupin: this was necessary to (re)discover "Big Fun," originally released in 1974. In the continuity of "Bitches Brew" and "On The Corner" (a jazz constellation crossed by funk-rock meteors), this album reveals a Miles glowing with wisdom and intuition. To carry out this impressive project (with highly qualified personnel: Herbie Hancock, Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Billy Cobham, etc.), his playing is reduced to its simplest and most vital expression: brief and incisive phrases, serving as punctuations for a (almost) entirely improvised music. A few months later, after signing "Get Up With It," the trumpeter would withdraw from the music scene for six long years.
