Exceptional meeting between 2 great musicians, Mighty Mo Rogers (multi-awarded in France and the USA) and Baba Sissoko (multi-instrumentalist, 7 instruments, griot of Malian music who has accompanied notably Sting, Habib Koite, Youssou N'Dour, Buena Vista Social Club, Dee Dee Bridgewater).
"Griot Blues" is the result of a beautiful encounter between American artist Mighty Mo Rodgers, a fervent representative of urban Blues, and Malian musician Baba Sissoko, guardian of the ancient African Griot traditions, a master in the art of introducing various traditional musical instruments into the modern sounds of blues and jazz.
Summer 2015 in Italy. Mighty Mo Rodgers is on a European tour to promote his album "Mud & Blood: A Mississippi Blues Tale," the sixth chapter of his Blues Odyssey, which began in 1999 with "Blues is My Wailin’ Wall," a first solo album that breaks the barriers between Blues, Jazz, and Contemporary Music and propels him to international levels. Baba Sissoko, a Malian artist known for his numerous collaborations with prestigious headliners such as Dee Dee Bridgewater and Rokia Traoré, lives in Italy, and the two artists get to know each other backstage at the festivals where they are both scheduled.
The connection between the two musicians is such that a studio session is organized immediately in Lithuania, where Mighty Mo Rodgers is to perform concerts. He invites Baba Sissoko on stage, leading to some improvisational duels that will lay the foundations for the "Griot Blues" project and continue beyond!
A brilliant musical project materializes with varied sounds, where African chants and modern blues blend wonderfully, where the guitar with Chicago accents responds to the very expressive tamani. For Mighty Mo, never stingy with explanations about his artistic approach, all contemporary music comes from the Blues, and this album is a return of the Blues to its African roots, but it is also clearly a "round-trip" journey, as much a tribute as a spotlight on all that two musics born on two different continents can bring to each other. "Griot Blues" is the story of a timeless brotherhood between Africa and America.
Mighty Mo Rodgers, with his white beard and prophet-like appearance, is considered one of the most beautiful voices on the Blues scene.
Accomplished artist and producer, invested in teaching in the tough neighborhoods of Los Angeles, he is also a graduate in philosophy.
