Through its eighteen arias and fifteen composers (Mozart, Donizetti, Verdi, Wagner, Thomas, Offenbach, Ravel...), the album covers three centuries of opera - Italian, French, German - alternating hits and rarities, including this Ariodant by Méhul, created in 1799. While he owes his fame to the multiple facets of his talent, Michael Spyres uses the term "baritenor" to define his voice, which combines insolent highs and solidity in the low register. Michael Spyres is accompanied by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, under the direction of its musical director Marko Letonja, joined by the men's choir of the Opéra du Rhin. "Having started as a baritone, I spent 10 years transforming into a tenor. Voices like mine have existed since opera began, and the entire program of this album is linked by the technique of the barytin. I make an honest attempt to explore the baritone as a forgotten vocal phenomenon... For me, this album is more than a dream come true."
