Wide Open is Michael McDonald's first album of original compositions in nearly 17 years! These 12 new songs were produced by Michael and drummer Shannon Forrest (Toto). The album features numerous artists and musicians including Forrest, as well as guitarist and singer Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule), guitarist Robben Ford, bassist Marcus Miller, saxophonist Branford Marsalis, singer Amy Holland, keyboardist David Paich (Toto), and many more. Michael began his career over 40 years ago as a backing vocalist for Steely Dan before joining the Doobie Brothers, for whom he composed some of their most famous tracks. He launched his solo career in 1982 with If That's What It Takes. While his last record was 2008's Soul Speak, his last album of original compositions dates back to 2000 with Blue Obsession. He later collaborated with Ray Charles in 2004, with Grizzly Bear in 2009, and with Thundercat in 2017. Wide Open showcases McDonald's raw and authentic voice and his reflections on love and human nature over sublime arrangements that skillfully draw upon rhythm & blues, country, and gospel.
