Number Ones compiles the hits that marked Michael Jackson's career from 1979 to 2001, from the end of the Jackson Five commemorated with the album Off the Wall to Invincible. Renamed the King of Pop, Michael Jackson reached perfection before inevitably beginning a decline marked by various eccentricities. A pioneer in the art of combining music and video, he established himself with the perfect trilogy of Off the Wall, Thriller (a masterpiece that held the number one spot on Billboard for 37 consecutive weeks), and Bad, which provides 12 of the 18 classics in this selection. Chronologically listed, the following tracks from Number Ones taken from Dangerous, the almost best-of History, or the misnamed Invincible tarnish the reputation of the living legend. The unreleased ballad written by R. Kelly, "One More Chance," will not change his downfall.
