When prominent jazz musicians with a shared history come together in the studio without rehearsal or a preparatory concert, it often results in a superficial and mundane session. This is absolutely not the case with Solid Jackson, whose 4 members participated in the 1994 Criss Cross album titled Consenting Adults, which ranks in the "top 5" of any hardcore jazz connoisseur. This second gathering of M.T.B. (named after the last names of Brad Mehldau, Mark Turner, and Peter Bernstein, and referencing the "young lions" group from the late '80s OTB) is an intense and focused recital that reinforces the exalted position each member holds in the jazz landscape of 2024. Everyone is listening. No one is overplaying or trying to show off. The atmosphere is one of excellence.
