There is a kinetic energy that connects drummer and producer Karriem Riggins and singer-songwriter, rapper, and producer Liv.e: the spark that ignites when instinct meets flow and the mind finds its rhythm. Their first collaboration under the name GENA (short for "God Energy, Naturally Amazing," loosely inspired by Gina from Martin), The Pleasure Is Yours (set to release on February 27, 2026, via Lex Records), feels like a playful and moving conversation between two kindred improvisers: Liv.e's raw and gritty voice glides through Riggins' warm and percussive universe. Rooted in jazz, soul, and hip-hop as a living language, Liv.e, hailing from Dallas, brings a raw and experimental approach to R&B, while Riggins, from Detroit and known for his work with Common, Erykah Badu, The Roots, Madlib, and his close ties to the late J Dilla, extends his ongoing dialogue between jazz improvisation and the science of beat-making. Together, they create an analog and ethereal world, percussive and poetic, that connects eras without ever settling into one.
