Sound Of Difference And Connection

Description

The work "The Sound of Difference and Connection" was born from Maya Dunietz's research on the irrational midpoint of the octave, a resonance zone where two close frequencies generate slow acoustic beats and a third emergent note. Developed with the Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop of Berlin, the work divides the octave into fifteen unequal parts, placing the musicians in a continuous tuning process. Instead of tuning to fixed pitches, the musicians adjust their physical proximity to shape the pulse: closer to slow it down, farther to speed it up. The piece unfolds as a fragile collective resonance that often seems to emerge from the air itself. Composed during a period of global turmoil, it offers a discreet act of attention and kindness at the heart of instability. For fans of works by Éliane Radigue, Catherine Lamb, Giacinto Scelsi, Pauline Oliveros, and Alvin Lucier.
