Three worlds: music of Woolf works

Description

After INFRA and Future Self, British choreographer Wayne McGregor collaborates once again with post-minimalist composer Max Richter on a project based on three novels by writer Virginia Woolf: Mrs. Dalloway, Orlando, and The Waves. The German composer explores time and memory here. The process of finding the musical language for these three acts of the ballet "Woolf Works" took two years between preparation, research, and experimentation. Each novel has its own universe and musical coherence, while being connected by an overall imprint echoing the author's voice in its multiple forms. Max Richter has transposed the music of the ballet (110min) into a 66-minute record. A prolific musician, Max Richter constantly reinvents himself but still maintains a common foundation in his compositions, which is the idea of evocative music. It is no coincidence that his music is used in more than thirty films and series directed by Martin Scorsese (Shutter Island, 2010), Clint Eastwood (J. Edgar, 2011), André Téchiné (Impardonnables, 2011), and Ridley Scott (Prometheus, 2012). The album Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi, The Four Seasons has also never left the top of the charts and has been awarded in Germany by the prestigious ECHO Klassik.
