The Italian pianist Maurizio Baglini presents the complete works for piano by the Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky, gathered for the first time at Decca Classics on this eventful double album. It includes, notably, Pictures at an Exhibition, the ultimate masterpiece of Mussorgsky, which is here Baglini's first interpretation, but also other pieces that are played less frequently such as the very melancholic La Capricieuse, or the gentle A Tear. Baglini is joined on the Sonata in C Major for four hands by pianist Roberto Prosseda. "Mussorgsky's suite has a great history of interpretations," comments Baglini, "but I think it's time to reinterpret it through a new lens, closer to our troubled and agitated times." Here is a contemporary and modern tribute to the genius of Mussorgsky by one of the best Italian pianists of our time.
