Anatomy of an extraordinary band In 13 years of existence, Matmatah left its mark on the French music scene and opened the doors to a new generation of musicians at a time when rock had become rare in France. Four major studio albums, one live album, several live videos, a host of EPs and vinyl records punctuated their journey. Originally from Brest, Tristan Nihouarn, Cédric Floc'h, Jean-François Paillard (later replaced by Benoît Fournier) and Éric Digaire quickly found their style by drawing on the music that shaped them, giving their sound an identity and a color that is both very current and deeply rooted in the 70's. No one could have predicted such national success for a Brest-based band bursting onto the scene with a first album centered on its geographical roots. Despite their success, Matmatah never accepted labels and never stopped doing what they fundamentally loved: unbridled music, free from conventions. From smoky beginnings in the bars of Finistère to the biggest festivals, Matmatah toured almost every stage in France, giving more than a thousand concerts in France, but also in every corner of the world: Europe, India, Russia, Canada, Australia, China... From 1995 to 2008, several million people were able to applaud them. It is an atypical story that charmed, seduced, irritated. These are four musicians who have always jealously guarded their artistic independence. Much ink has flowed. The "Matmatah phenomenon" never left anyone indifferent. That is the mark of the greats, and few in France can boast such a record. 3 gold records, 1 double platinum record, 1,300,000 albums sold, the finest stages in France... . And yet, in 2007, Matmatah announced their split. In the summer of 2008, they took to the stage one last time to salute those with whom, for 13 years, they had shared this wonderful adventure. The year 2015 marks the 20th anniversary of the creation of Matmatah. On this occasion, La Ouache Production is releasing the vinyl records of the band's 4 albums, including for the first time La Cerise on 33 rpm, the first step in the celebration of this 20th anniversary. On September 25, 2015, a double Best Of - Antaology in digipack will be released. The first CD offers a Best Of and the second a selection of unreleased tracks, rarities and other curiosities unearthed from the band's archives. For nearly a year, Eric Digaire, Benoît Fournier and Tristan Nihouarn have been searching for alternative versions, demos, live recordings, as well as the band's first recordings to put together this box set. And it was by spending all these hours together that they felt like finishing certain unfinished tracks with the help of Emmanuel Baroux. Among them, Triceratops, or even Les demoiselles de Loctudy, two tracks born during the band's last recording session in 2008 at the La Chapelle studios.
