The heavy rock icons from Atlanta, Mastodon, are releasing their 7th album: it was produced by Brendan O'Brien, with whom the American band had previously collaborated for the album "Crack The Skye," released in 2009. Regarding the themes addressed in the album, drummer Brann Dailor stated in the print version of American Rolling Stone magazine: "Time is a very important theme in this album. How much time do we have left? What do we do with it? [...] It talks about going through cancer, chemotherapy, and everything that comes with it. I didn't want to be too explicit about it. But it's there. You see it if you read between the lines." Concerning the musical direction, rhythm guitarist Bill Kelliher mentioned that it is "a bit like the last album [Once More 'Round The Sun], but it goes further in some aspects," with "a bit more psychedelic parts and technical parts."
