Rifles & Rosaey Beads

Description

Rifles and Rosary Beads is the new album by American artist Mary Gauthier, born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and self-proclaimed Southern folk singer. These new songs were co-written by American veterans and their families through Songwriting with Soldiers, a nonprofit organization that connects veterans with professional songwriters. These songs immerse us in the heart and soul of soldiers and their spouses. The emotional honesty of a song can sometimes lighten a deeply rooted trauma. Through music, a person's story can be told in a way that others can relate to. This can be achieved not by seeking to heal but by becoming vulnerable instead. The song then becomes a step forward, beyond oneself, towards others who may have felt the same way. Fueled by alchemy, these songs can transform atrocity into beauty and change lives. Each piece of this album offers a glimpse into the personal experiences of veterans, an inner and outer lived experience. Ultimately, these songs are inevitably calls for love and peace. While the writing process is deeply therapeutic, it is not therapy; it is above all an artistic creation.
