The Quintessence Paris 1956-1962 Box Set

Description

MARTIAL SOLAL passed away this Thursday, December 12, at the age of 97. He is credited with numerous film soundtracks, notably that of the New Wave manifesto, Breathless by French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard, and he recorded more than a hundred albums, as a soloist, in duo, trio, or even in big band. Composer, arranger, conductor, Martial Solal also proved equally at ease in revisiting classical works as in confronting the most contemporary music. “Solal was one of the first non-Americans to grasp this principle: one thinks subtly only in a language — native or not, it matters little — that, far more than you possess it, possesses you.” ALAIN GERBER The “The Quintessence” jazz and blues box sets, recognized worldwide for their quality, are the result of the best analog transfers from the source records, and digital restoration using the most sophisticated technologies, without ever resorting to any alteration of the original sound that would harm the completeness of the sonic information, the dynamics and coherence of the acoustics, and the authenticity of the original recording. Each audio release from the “Frémeaux & Associés” label comes with an explanatory booklet in French and a warranty certificate. The “Quintessence” records from Frémeaux & Associés have undergone analog and digital restoration recognized worldwide. Each 2-CD box set edition includes an English booklet as well as a warranty. This 2-CD box set presents a selection of Roy Haynes’s best recordings between 1949 and 1960.
