‘Between melancholy and sensual renewal’ Les Inrocks Martha Wainwright, the Canadian folk singer-songwriter, returns with *Love Will Be Reborn*, an album for which she wrote all the tracks. Since 2012 and her album *Come To Mama*, Martha had never revealed so much of herself in original songs. While she experienced solitude and darkness in recent years, the songs on *Love Will Be Reborn* are filled with light and hope. This album, her “Canadian record” as she likes to call it, was recorded in Montreal with musicians from Toronto and Pierre Marchand producing (Rufus Wainwright, Ron Sexsmith, etc.). Drawing inspiration from the great traditions of Anglophone popular song, *Love Will Be Reborn* skillfully navigates between more rock-oriented sounds (the excellent "Middle of The Lake" opening track), more folk (the delicate "Sometimes"), blues (on "Report Card"), and even soul (the moving lyrics of "Body and Soul" about an abusive relationship). As for the title track, which stands out as one of the most beautiful songs in Wainwright's entire repertoire, it flirts with country rock, giving way to lyrics that carry the meaning of the whole album, this idea that light can emerge from darkness.
