Sur Konstanz, the new album by Marquis, features Frank Darcel on guitar, principal songwriter, and Éric Morinière on drums, both former members of Marquis de Sade; Niko Boyer on guitar, a former member of Detroit, and Belgian singer Simon Mahieu, a revelation. Charismatic, he embodies the voice of Marquis on an album he co-wrote this time. Without denying its origins, the band explores new territories, accompanied by notable guests: former Voidoids Ivan Julian, Vernon Reid from Living Color, saxophonist Pierrick Pédron, and Jared Mickael Nickerson, bassist of The The. This high-profile cast infuses a nervous refinement into tracks oscillating between shadow and light. The shadow is represented by Listen to the Big Bang, a story of a toxic relationship where Denis Bortek (Jad Wio) lends his unique voice, Henry Lee Didn’t Do It and its evocation of a real fake serial killer, or I Wasn’t Born For Real and Pyramid, from which seeps that feeling that sometimes lasts beyond adolescence of never really being in one’s place. The luminous is In The Mood for Sun which allows us to hear the too-rare voice of Elli Medeiros, in duet with Simon, Immensité de la jeunesse with its catchy chorus, and Jour de Gloire where the new generation no future seeks reasons to hope in a weighed-down present. The record ends in the light of a new dawn, Aux Premier Feux.
