Animam Gementem Cano

Description

Here is one of the five Stabat Mater by František Tuma, a gem that remained buried in the collection of the Ottobeuren Abbey library until its rediscovery by Marnix De Cat (artistic director of the Pluto-Ensemble). The work is accompanied by the Requiem in F minor by H. I. F. Biber and instrumental pieces by Biber, his teacher J. H. Schmelzer, and A. C. Clamer. Animam gementem cano ("I sing the sorrowful soul") takes us through the most significant moments of existence: life and death, but also the journey of our own consciousness. The program aims not only to comfort the "sorrowful soul imprisoned" in every flesh-and-blood being but also to offer any curious music lover a journey of musical discovery.
