'Uptown Special' is Mark Ronson's most inventive and vibrant production to date. Overall, the album is inspired by the musical beginnings of the producer. As a teenager, Mark Ronson moved in the hip hop, funk, soul, and R&B spheres of early 90s New York. These were the records he carried with him at the start of his DJ career, and these crackling and inspiring vinyls are what he turned to when creating this new album. "With Uptown Special, I wanted to convey what I felt during my New York nights," confides Mark Ronson. In 2008, Mark Ronson was nominated "Producer of the Year" at the GRAMMY® Awards for his second album "Version" as well as for his work on Amy Winehouse's album "Back To Black" and Lilly Allen's album "Alright, Still." He shared two other Grammy Awards with Amy Winehouse that year, winning the statuettes for "Best Pop Vocal Album" and "Album of the Year" for "Rehab." That same year, Mark Ronson was named 'Best British Artist' at the BRIT Awards. Ronson was also nominated for Grammys in 2014 for his work on "Locked Out Of Heaven," the single by Bruno Mars from the multi-Platinum album "Unorthodox Jukebox," which topped the Billboard 100 for six weeks during the winter of 2012/2013. The international success of "Record Collection," the successor to "Version" in 2010, was followed by a series of high-profile live productions for the acclaimed albums of Rufus Wainright, Bruno Mars, Action Bronson, and (Sir) Paul McCartney. More recently, Ronson contributed to a very popular TED Talk on the history of sampling in music.
