Vincenzo Bellini is one of the most important Italian opera composers of the early 19th century and represents the quintessence of the bel canto tradition. Despite his fame, Bianca e Gernando, his official opera debut, was only known in its revised version, Bianca e Fernando, until the rediscovery and revival of the work in Bad Wildbad in July 2016. This tale of secret plots and triumph over tyranny set in the ducal palace of Agrigento features both unknown music and significant differences from the revised version in its original form, giving its dramatic structure a completely new character.
