Love, Sweat & Tears

Description

Time ultimately passed faster than expected, but Mariama did not lose any of it, making use of every break her schedule allowed her to write, compose, and gradually sketch out the contours of what would become her second album. Fragments of lyrics, melody drafts, title sketches, it was with Manuel Schlindwein (Selah Sue, Patrice, Akua Naru, Cody Chesnut...) that she set about detailing, refining, and honing them to bring forth from a block of musical marble, Love, Sweat & Tears, a sculpture with fourteen facets and multiple reflections. Love, Sweat & Tears unfolds in a luxurious production, but one that knows how to show the restraint needed not to become overwhelming. Under the push of brass and the celestial drizzles of Fender Rhodes, digital melodies and cello bows, Mariama carries her folk on its journeys around the world, bringing it face to face with buzzing basslines, Burkina Faso balafons, Guinean guitars.
