Exceptional reissue meticulously restored in 24-bit/96Hz, produced by Abbey Road Studios from the original tapes. The 2 comic characters played by Callas can be found in Rossini, in The Barber of Seville and The Turk in Italy. She first performed, in 1950 in Rome, the capricious and seductive Fiorilla, a Neapolitan woman who falls in love with a passing Turk, although already married. Five years later, at La Scala, she appeared in a production by Franco Zeffirelli, who would also be the director of the famous Tosca at Covent Garden and Norma in Paris. Gramophone magazine wrote: "Madame Callas's dramatic performance is striking, both in reprimand, boastfulness, and emotion; and when she was entrusted with key characters, of a typically Rossinian style, she knew - according to some - to deliver a slightly different interpretation of the role on each new occasion. We must admit that these expressions haunted our thoughts long after."
