Today, pioneering Brazilian rapper Marcelo D2 announces the release of a new album. Recorded alongside the electrifying live group SambaDrive, the album revisits some of Marcelo D2's most important tracks, drawing on 25 years of revolutionary music from the Brazilian legend and capturing his now-timeless "samba hip-hop" sound. A generational voice in Brazil who emerged in the mid-90s as the founder of the hip-hop group Planet Hemp, Marcelo D2 has achieved the enchanting status of a well-known name and musical innovator, collaborating with artists like the late Sergio Mendes and esteemed producer will.i.am. Since the release of his first solo album Eu Tiro É Onda in 1998, he has developed an instantly recognizable sound that oscillates between classic Brazilian groove and contemporary rap, guided by the motto "in search of the perfect rhythm" that adorns his second album À Procura da Batida Perfeita. Today, in 2024, Marcelo D2 tells his story again in a new light. Inspired by the iconic jazz-samba trios of the 60s and 70s, SambaDrive was born from the often spontaneous and improvised jams that would precede Marcelo D2's concerts. Touring worldwide and reunited with producer Mario Caldato Jr., the group went to the Artone studio in Amsterdam in October 2022 to record a 10-track album, drawn from four of Marcelo D2's most beloved albums.
