Among the thousand and one wonders of the Glossa Cabinet series, here is the reissue of the delightful version by Marcello Gatti of the sonatas for traverso by Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach (the ninth son of Johann Sebastian), who worked at the court of Bückeburg, in central Germany towards the end of the 18th century. These sonatas, composed during a visit to his brother Johann Christian in London in 1778, combine the Italian galant style with the German Empfindsamer Stil. This elegantly sophisticated interpretation, featuring Giovanni Togni on fortepiano and Giovanna Barbati on cello - the trio of the 1780s - was recorded by Sigrid Lee and Roberto Meo, the team from the now-defunct label Symphonia.
