Six Suites

J. S. Bach is known for his monumental collections of works, among which the Six Suites for Cello, BWV 1007-1012, rank among his most remarkable and singular compositions. Evocative, captivating, and highly virtuosic, both in their writing and in the demands placed on the performer, they have been a pinnacle for many string musicians, from Pablo Casals to Yo-Yo Ma and Rachel Podger, and continue to inspire performers to imprint their own voice upon them. Here, violist Marc Sabbah offers a complete interpretation: "Bach loved to play the viola, and I like to think that these suites could have been conceived for this instrument — and if not, it is my own wish."
