Vagabonde from super cap vert to number one

Description

MAR SECK, a singer and composer who marked the history of Senegalese music with his delicacy. Blending Cuban influences with Senegalese folklore, his songs gave birth to the “Salsa-Mbalax” movement, a very popular music and dance style of the 70s, which would influence an entire new generation of Senegalese musicians, including the young Youssou N'Dour. With 12 tracks recorded during 3 separate sessions, VAGABONDE presents the best of MAR SECK’s career. The first recordings come from an unreleased and rudimentary session at Radio Nationale de Dakar. Made with his first group, the SUPER CAR-VERT of Rufisque, it captures an 18-year-old MAR performing the first version of his now-classic “Vagabonde”. Among the 6 other tracks from this session, there is also a superb cover of Fonseca’s “Sibouten”. We then move on to a live recording from 1973 in Saint Louis, backed by the STAR BAND de DAKAR. Completely unreleased, it dates from a time when MAR was striving to make a name for himself playing at the legendary Miami Club in Dakar, a kind of “passing school” for all the great Senegalese musicians. Finally, the last 2 tracks (including one unreleased) feature MAR accompanied by one of the most renowned Senegalese groups, the NUMBER ONE de DAKAR. The CD includes many photos and documents on MAR SECK’s career. All tracks have been mixed and mastered from the original master tapes.
