Manuel Granatiero signs here his first solo album, after participating in several critically acclaimed recordings of concertos with the ensemble Gli Incogniti under the direction of Amandine Beyer and with the Ottoboni Academy, of which he is a founding member. Accompanied by Yu Yashima and Marco Ceccato, he embarks on the exploration of C.P.E. Bach's music for flute. The result of this work is Light and Darkness, five sonatas selected from the remarkable body of work that the composer dedicated to this instrument. In addition to the famous sonata for solo flute, this program includes two sonatas with obbligato harpsichord and two sonatas with continuo. In all their stylistic and compositional variety, they represent the time span during which Bach composed the flute sonatas that have survived: BWV1020 was written in his youth in his father's house in Leipzig; Wq124 during his early years of study in Frankfurt, Wq128 and Wq132 during his service at the court of Frederick II, and Wq83 during his mature years in Hamburg. It is a brief journey into the world of the "Bach of Berlin" through a few intimate pages that allow us to explore the most diverse human passions, from the darkest to the brightest.
