Their path seemed predetermined. Pat McManus, the eldest at 23 (guitar, vocals), John McManus, 21 (bass and vocals), and Tommy McManus, the youngest at 18 (drums), come from a family of musicians in County Fermanagh. Their parents played traditional Irish folk music. The children naturally followed in their footsteps. There were good vibes around the guitar and violin when the family quintet played and Irish Cream made the rounds. But very quickly, tradition was no longer enough for the young musicians. Enthused by the performance of the Irish band Horslips, who played a mix of Celtic folk combined with a rock rhythm, their musical world collapsed. The three brothers decided to swap their bagpipes, violin and brass for modern equipment. And this change would quickly spread across the island. Especially since Horslips hired them to open for them before Wishbone Ash and Hawkwind followed suit. Very quickly, the three McManus brothers moved up to professional level.
