A veteran of Mali's great orchestra, the Super Biton de Ségou, Mama Sissoko is a rare musician. His music has all the ageless melancholy of a Mandingo dandy. With a feverish voice, fast tempos, and thoughtful lyrics, his alert and attentive music traverses Mandingo, Bambara, Sarakolé, Songhai, Bobo, Fulani, Malinké, and Bozo traditions, while also flirting with jazz. On stage, Mama Sissoko is a purist who enchants and transports with his energy, generosity, and especially his inspired guitar solos. 'Live' brings together recordings from a concert given in Paris at La Villette in 1998. 20 years later, this album takes us back to a highlight of Mama Sissoko's career and makes us vibrate to the rhythm of his masterful guitar playing and his deep, resonant voice.
