Un piercing groove, a sincerity that is skin deep, a strong voice, recognizable among thousands. This voice that has known its ups and downs, is that of Makhtar, born in 1990 in Dakar. He writes his first songs, knows how to sing and rap, plays percussion, then releases a few self-produced singles while participating in talent contests like Hip Hop Feeling, a national TV show. He then wins a visa to try his luck in France. At the end of 2014, here he is arriving in Paris, facing his destiny and the obstacles to overcome. He has not a penny to his name. No job, no apartment. He sleeps a few nights in the metro... "Being in a country where you don't know anyone is painful..." he remembers. But he clings to his lucky star. In 2015, a friend introduces him to the director of the cabaret Aux Trois Mailletz, where Zaz, Dany Brillant, and Nina Simone once performed. Bingo! He is hired as a singer and finds his way back to the studios. "I want to share my experiences over a pop background, so that the listener never loses their smile." His first single, "Blah Blah," is a catchy blend of plural and universal pop that tells of "the lack of communication, the little misunderstandings of today's couples." Speaking to everyone while cultivating his own style, that is the secret of Makhtar. Unconsciously or not, this first album will be nourished by all his influences, from the king of pop Michael Jackson to the collective reggae of Morgan Heritage, passing through Youssou N'Dour, Salif Keita, or Maître Gims.
