In contrast to various Requiems of the 19th century that sought theatricality, dramatization, and grand orchestral effects, Fauré composes a short, peaceful work, full of restraint, aiming to be in harmony with the liturgy and what it conveys about Christian hope. A magnificent, accessible piece, whose melodies and harmonies are peaceful and luminous. This repertoire is perfectly suited to the Saint-Christophe de Javel choir, which has already delivered a beautiful recording of Duruflé's 'Requiem.' - - Two other religious works by Fauré complete this album. First, the 'Messe basse' for women's voices (performed by the children's choir), which also embodies the sobriety and peaceful character of the Requiem. The CD then concludes with the splendid praise of the famous 'Cantique de Jean Racine,' which also echoes the luminous and angelic nature of the 'Requiem.'
