Description

The works of this album have been selected to demonstrate the connection between the music of two composers of Polish origin: Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) and Karol Szymanowski (1882-1937). On one side, we have Szymanowski's lifelong reverence for Chopin's musical style, which begins with the early stages of composition, "Préludes op. 1" and culminates decades later in "Mazurkas op. 50 and op. 62". On the other side, we have this fascination with Polish folklore developed independently by each composer, drawing inspiration from a variety of musical styles found in different regions. Although folklore was not the only artistic influence, both composers explored it at stages of maturity in their work.
