Hot sauce

Description

Formed in the fall of 2013 in Rennes, The Madcaps were born from Thomas Dahyot’s desire to test out a handful of songs written during the summer. A few gigs later, a first EP was released on Howlin Banana Records (April 2014). Driven by the single All I Really Wanna Do, the EP won over the specialized press and quickly established the band within the buzzing French garage scene. With a first album released in April 2014, jointly on Howlin Banana and Beast Records, the band revealed a new side of its influences. The fuzz-soaked teenage garage rock that made the first EP a success is here joined by haunting mid-tempo ballads featuring 12-string guitars, haunting keyboards and ethereal backing vocals. In the vein of Black Lips, Allah-Las or King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, The Madcaps excel at blending influences drawn from the 60s with a decidedly modern writing style and production. It is this echo between past and present that makes this album such a success, and it quickly won over a wide audience in France as well as internationally. The album will also soon be reissued on the American labels Burger Records and Gnar Tapes. Recorded during the summer of 2015 at Kerwax studios, one of the last strongholds of 100% analog recording in France, "Hot Sauce", The Madcaps’ new album, means to drive the point home. A production and instrumentation that are definitely more ambitious, serving compositions that are ever more immediate and haunting, characterize this new album, which will surely establish the band as one of the main standard-bearers of French garage.
