For nearly twenty years, composer and multi-instrumentalist M. Geddes Gengras has released a vast catalog of eclectic synthetic music, both solo and in collaboration. He has been part of influential experimental groups such as Sun Araw, Pocahaunted, Robedoor, and Akron
Family. Alongside Cameron Stallones of Sun Araw and numerous Jamaican singers and artists, Gengras blurs the boundaries between dub and electronic music under the banner of Duppy Gun Productions. His solo works have appeared on labels like Room40, Leaving Records, Holy Mountain, and Umor Rex. After living in Los Angeles for many years, Gengras now resides in upstate New York. M. Geddes Gengras returns to Hausu Mountain with Guest List, his fourth album on the label since 2019 and the first to be released on vinyl. His albums for HausMo explore a wide range of sounds, from the topographical ambient synth networks of *I Am The Last of That Green and Warm-Hued World* (HAUSMO88, 2019) to the dense techno-id rhythmic experiments of *Time Makes Nothing Happen* (HAUSMO109, 2020), and the lush, post-rock-adjacent harmonic architectures of *Expressed, I Noticed Silence* (HAUSMO127, 2022). On *Guest List*, Gengras composes the most ambitious cycle of tracks he has ever realized on a single album, weaving his own synthesizers and electronics into a dense tapestry of contrasting genres and ideas, all animated by the presence of an impressive array of collaborators. Under Gengras's direction, the virtuosic rhythmic performances of Greg Fox on drums, the ecstatic guitar explorations of Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance), the vocal flights of Christina Carter (Charalambides), and the contributions of many other artists become individual brushstrokes that color the canvas of his dense mixes. Drawing on the sonic details of his vast circle of friends, Gengras expands his field of expression and composes the most collective and, ultimately, the most personal musical program in his inexhaustible catalog.
