Musica Del Delphin

Description

The Argentine guitarist Pablo Marquez arrived in Europe about twenty years ago to study the guitar repertoire of the Renaissance. Today, he has become one of the most accomplished and eclectic virtuosos of the instrument: an outstanding performer of contemporary music, classical music, and the repertoire of traditional Argentine music. Musica Del Delphin was conceived as a tribute to the composer Luys de Narvaez, to whom Pablo Marquez has a true passion: this composer, born in Granada around 1500, lived at the same time as Josquin Desprez and Nicolas Gombert, and his music can be heard as a transposition of their polyphonic discourse to the technique of the vihuela, the ancestor of the modern guitar. This personal selection of 17 pieces - drawn from the collection Seys libros, the most important work of Luys de Narvaez, published in 1538 and which enjoyed great popularity throughout Europe at the time - offers a representative panorama of the overall spirit of this work.
The great finesse of interpretation and the fluid style of Pablo Marquez highlight these true little masterpieces unknown in the traditional repertoire of classical guitar.
