Corelli: Sonates Op. 5

Description

Discovering a talented flutist, Luis Beduschi, on Corelli's Opus 5.It is unlikely that Corelli could have anticipated the impact his Opus 5 would have throughout the 18th century and even long after. Indeed, the Corellian Solos, as they were called at the time, were reprinted more than fifty times up to the 1800s, not to mention the hundreds of manuscript copies and the few dozen arrangements, proof if any were needed that Op. 5 was performed and used as a pedagogical tool throughout the 18th century. No other collection of pieces has been the subject of so many examples of free ornamentation, which makes Corelli's Op. 5 sonatas a privileged object for the study of free ornamentation in the 18th century.Luis Beduschi, an internationally recognized flutist, chose Corelli's ornaments to appropriate these works for the flute due to their undeniable beauty and the coherence of the whole. Originally for violin, Luis Beduschi decided to set aside unsatisfactory baroque transcriptions to develop his own transcription, with the goal of preserving the original line as much as possible.
