From the end of the 18th century to 2024, this program traces two centuries of Italian piano miniatures, revealing a continuity often overshadowed by the primacy of opera. Fenaroli and Cherubini stand alongside the stage shadows of Rossini and in the Valzer attributed to Verdi; Boito and Puccini distill theatrical cantabile in short form. Between Mix's Prelude No. 1 from Stati d'animo, Scelsi's Terzo Poema from Quattro Poemi, and Gorini's Ricercare, with Alfano and Clementi in the arc, brevity becomes a workshop: Evangelisti expands, Lombardi refracts, Pennisi rarifies, and D'Amico concludes with Prelude No. 5. Several titles, indicated in the program, appear here as recordings in world premieres. A palimpsest of Italian instrumental writing, still awaiting complete listening.
