This recording was made in December 2019, under the direction of Reinbert de Leeuw, two months before his death. A few weeks earlier, he had called Thomas Dieltjens, the artistic director of the ensemble Het Collectief, to say: "Since our concert in mid-July 2019 at the Festival de Saintes, Das Lied von der Erde has not left my mind. I am completely enchanted by the piece, and every day I discover new things in this masterpiece by Mahler. Wouldn't it be a dream if we could record this music with the exceptional group of musicians and soloists we had in Saintes? And preferably as soon as possible?" Reinbert signed the arrangement for 15 instrumentalists and two soloists and poured his last energies into recording this music that encompasses the entire life, from the freshness of birth to the moment of farewell... A testament album, featuring the moving mezzo-soprano Lucile Richardot, which allows us to pay tribute to one of the most important ambassadors of 20th-century music.
