After a first solo album dedicated to Marchand and Clérambault, released in 2015 and nominated for the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, the harpsichordist Luca Oberti, for years on international stages alongside names such as Marc Minkowski and Christophe Rousset, presents a new CD dedicated to Bach's imaginary journey in Italy. Schu¨tz, Froberger, Muffat, Handel, Hasse, Mozart, Wagner, are only the most famous among the musicians who crossed the Alps to immerse themselves in the world of Italian music, and capture its atmospheres and secrets.
But the musician who best assimilated the Italian style is Johann Sebastian Bach who, however, never set foot in Italy. His journey was virtual: the scores of Italian composers, which he had enthusiastically studied since he was a child, led him on an ideal route from Vivaldi's Venice to Frescobaldi's Rome. The transcriptions of Vivaldi's and Marcello's concertos first, and then the pieces of Italian inspiration, such as the Aria Variata alla maniera italiana, the Capriccio sulla lontananza del fratello dilettissimo, the Fantaisie and Fugue BWV 904, are the stages of a journey that culminates in the famous Concerto in the Italian style.
