In January 2004, recording began on Loretta Lynn’s 42nd solo album. From the outset, this album was set to be a unique, fully realized work within a long-established, incredible, and legendary career already spanning five decades, thanks to the role of producer entrusted to none other than Jack White, then 28 years old. White, a longtime admirer of Lynn’s work, jumped at the chance to lead this musical experiment blending different styles and to see what fruits might come from these two very distinct, yet closely connected, approaches to musical writing, performance, and production. The album then won the 2005 Grammy Award for “Best Country Album,” while the album’s second single, “Portland, Oregon,” was named “Best Country Collaboration with Vocals.” A multitude of other honors followed, and this album firmly established itself in the annals of country music history as the most successful crossover album of Loretta’s storied career. Twenty-two years later, we continue to celebrate it. Third Man Records is proud to announce the expanded reissue of Van Lear Rose. The album now includes the bonus track “Just to Have You Back,” previously exclusive to subscribers of The Vault vinyl series, completing an already impeccable tracklist. This vinyl is available on standard black and limited-edition orange vinyl (while supplies last), as well as on CD.
