Lorenzo Naccarato returns with his trio. His second album, "Nova Rupta," proves worthy of the promises raised by the first one in 2016. Better yet, the ensemble has gained maturity. In cohesion. A music in motion. Kinetic, or cinematic.
Its domain, the entire universe. Its effects, the intoxication of vast spaces. The expression, conscious, controlled, of this harmony of the spheres, developed over the centuries, since Pythagoras, masterfully exploited by Dante. Spheres… How can we not mention Thelonious "Sphere" Monk? A chance encounter?
Not at all. Lorenzo, composer and performer, knows his Monk inside and out.
That he is imbued with the characteristics of his art – the role of silence, that of bold harmonies, among others – is undeniable. However, to consider Naccarato as a follower would be singularly reductive. For his originality bursts forth with every note. The improvisation, brilliant, of astonishing fluidity, the repeated melodic motifs, progressively enriched, the meditative passages, the rhythmic and harmonic breaks combine in his art to create an impression of freedom and fullness.
All of this belongs to him alone. To him and his accomplices, Adrien Rodriguez and Benjamin Naud, who follow him as one man in his fruitful wanderings.
