It was the first of eleven consecutive performances until September 14 – the longest run in the venue's history. Moreover, all concerts in this five-level, 2,804-seat hall were sold out. (This record stood until 1987, when an artist performed three consecutive weeks of sold-out shows. That artist? Liza Minnelli.) Liza had the foresight to record three nights of concerts; two years later, in 1981, she began selling the limited release at her shows. The double album Live at Carnegie Hall captured Liza's electrifying and thrilling evening from start to finish, including definitive versions of well-known songs like "Cabaret," "But the World Goes 'Round," and "Theme From 'New York, New York'" by John Kander and Fred Ebb, as well as fresh takes on contemporary pop and classic Broadway standards by luminaries such as George and Ira Gershwin, Jule Styne, and Stephen Sondheim, Barry Manilow, and Melissa Manchester. However, deprived of adequate commercial distribution, the album never reached a wide audience... Until now!
